Mission & Values

Identity Statement
The Salvation Army is an international Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible; its ministry is motivated by love for God and the needs of humanity.

Mission Statement
The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.

Core Values
There are three core values of our faith –

Salvation – we proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all our ministries.  We believe that through the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus, God provided a way that we could be with him forever, if we choose to believe in who Jesus is.  We believe that God has the power to change people’s lives and we want them to know about His plan for them.

Holiness – We are shaped by the Bible and the example of Jesus through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.  We acknowledge our total dependency on God.  We pray, follow God’s word and live by faith.  We are obedient to God and commit to a disciplined Christian lifestyle and service in Christ’s name.  The evidence of this is shown in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  The more these attributes are shown, the closer to God one likely is.

Intimacy with God – We commune with God through worship and prayer.  Intimacy with God is both our privilege and responsibility.  We believe that prayer, worship, studying God’s word, solitude and self-denial are essential to our faith, spiritual growth and mission
Rooted in these three values are the seven core operational values which guide all aspects of The Salvation Army in Canada & Bermuda.  These are the values that we expect everyone who works or volunteers with us to show in everything you do.

Compassion: We reach out to others and care for them.  We respond in love, regardless of who someone is or what they have done.  We show compassion always.  Our desire is for God to work through our ministries to renew broken families, empower the poor and transform neighbourhoods.

Respect: We promote the dignity of all persons – we believe that all people are created in God’s image.  Although we are all sinful people, we believe that Jesus was sent to restore the relationship between God and humanity.  We treat all people with dignity, recognized that they are loved by God – we try to focus on their gifts and strength and try to help them find their worth in Christ.

Excellence: We strive to be the best at what we do and a model for others to emulate. We want to do our best and to make a difference – we want to equip our staff and volunteers to be the best they can be.

Integrity: We are honest, trustworthy, and accountable. Everything we do is a reflection of God and the name of The Salvation Army; therefore, our actions will be transparent and hold up to scrutiny.  We will take responsibility for our actions.

Relevance: We are committed to the pursuit of innovation and effectiveness. We adapt our methods to meet changes – we are progressive and innovative.

Co-operation: We encourage and foster teamwork and partnerships – we want to work together with others – both internally and externally to fulfill God’s mission.  We value partnerships with others in the community.

Celebration: We give thanks by marking milestones and successes.  We are thankful to God for blessing The Salvation Army.  We want to be joyful in everything we do.
